Got to see the quilt exhibit at the Wayne County Museum

February 15th, 2012

Last night Joe and I were able to get to the Wayne County Museum to see the quilt exhibit. http://waynecountyhistoricalnc.org/ You can see the hours  of operation at this website. It is a very nice museum. I have been there for different exhibits in the past and am impressed with what they do there. If you want to take the time you can look at the different things they are offering on their website. I wish I had more time to be able to take advantage of some of their upcoming events.

The quilt show information is here:

In conjunction with Wayne County Reads

The Pleasure Was Mine

"Quilts and their Stories"

Over 25 Quilts on Display

February 2012

Well that didn't copy and past very good, but there is the information from their website.

Each quilt that is on display has its story accompaning it. It is fascinating to see what inspired the quilters. If you love quilts you don't want to miss this.

It is true that each of the quilts we make has a story that goes with it. I know that I love to go to groups that study vintage quilts and wish that we knew the story behind each of them. Maybe we should be writing up the quilts story as well as labelling our quilts.

Sorry, no pictures as I forgot my camera.

Time flies...

February 10th, 2012

And yes, we are having fun!

We had another midnight madness with a full house, literally! This week I had the opportunity to pick out more fabric for the Shoppe. We are also planning next quarter classes and have added another teacher who is full of ideas and energy.  We have been meeting new friends, starting people on their quilting journey and helping people pick out fabric for their projects. In all this fun the blog has just been waiting for me to get to it. I did managed to get pictures of midnight madness posted on the website in the gallery section and on our Facebook page.

I am going to try to get something up here for you.

Our second midnight madness was fun once again. We had great food and sewing time.

show and tell

We had show and tell this time. These were all projects that she had made between the last midnight madness and this one! She sure was busy and does wonderful work. To see all that she did go to our gallery and look at all the great things  she made. So clever!

This time we had more people come in their pj's. They also came ready to work. Don't let these industrious looking people fool you, they also were ready for a good time. In fact, as the night wore on things did get to the wild side! I could not imagine what it would have been like if three of us weren't completely tuckered out before the night began. Note: staying up the night before a midnight madness til 1am isn't a good idea, nor is a full slate of activitied a few days before and trip immediately afterwards a good idea either! I think one of the things that sort of helped them was the male vistor that was staring them down the whole evening. I thought it would sort of wind them up. Well, I take that back, after 10:30 things started to a bit crazy.

Well that is all for now. It only took me all day to get this on here!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

We are having some Good Fortune Here!

January 25th, 2012

We have gotten in Kate Spain's line Good Fortune for Moda.

Good fortune line

I managed to get a top made using the Another Bite of Schnibbles book by Carrie Nelson. I used the small Round About pattern found in there which uses charms squares. The quilt went together quickly.  Stop by and get your fabric while it lasts!

Beverly brought in her finished scrappy version of the Shoppe's Quilt Sampler quilt. She decided to do it more organized this time and each block uses just two different fabrics, one for the background and one for the dark. scrappy version of quilt sampler quilt

Scrappy can be however you like it. For us it depends on the mood of the day.  She was in a much more scrappy mood the day she pieced this version of the quilt!

red, pink and brown version

It is hard to  for me to decide which I like better. I think it shows that each has it place in the world of quilts. It is fun to play around and try different combinations.

We have kits available to both of these quilts as well as some left for the blue version that is found in the magazine and the red version and the black version. We will be making up other versions as the whim hits us. We like to see how they will look when we try other fabrics.  I think soon Beverly will be able to make this quilt in her sleep!

Well that is all for today as I need to get busy getting ready for Midnight Madness. It is about that time again. I can't wait to see what our group of ladies will be up to this time.  I do know one thing, they will have a fun time!

Happy quilting!

We are getting in new lines.

January 11th, 2012

I'm trying to keep up with it. Yesterday during the Civil War Sewing Circle Club they were cracking the whip at me to get out the newest line in the Shoppe Elizabethtown by Jo Morton for Andover. I got it inventoried, but never up on the shelf as they were raiding the bolts while they were still on the floor. It is a nice line.

Elizabethtown

Andover has a free pattern that goes with this line on their website. http://www.andoverfabrics.com/Quilts/Elizabethtown.pdf

We also got out the black and cheddar colorway of Carolina by Jo Morton for Andover.

Carolina

This line was put out last week, but I'm just now getting caught up enough to get it on here.

We are hoping to soon have 1862 Battle Hymn available. This line is by Barbara Brackman for Moda. I can't wait! We currently have the charms and Jelly Rolls.

Our week off wasn't anything like we had planned. We were both sick and didn't get anything done that we had planned. I think I've been sick since the 8th of December. We think the worse is over now and starting to get something done. I thought I was getting better right before Christmas so was able to make some cookies, what a surprise. I know Joe couldn't believe it! We had chocolate chip and chocolate mint.

We got to baby sit Abby. She was sick too as well as her papa and mama. She was still smilie.

Happy Abby

She tried to climb the stairs.

On her way up

Nothing will slow her down.

We love books and want to introduce her to them. She is developing a taste for books!

a taste for books

We didn't get things done at the house like we had planned. However since the bed was moved out of the sewing room early on vacation Joe was able to bring up the cabinet to the room. It is helping with storage and I have more room to move around. Still there is more work to do to get the room where I really want it.

The quilt on the design wall actually did get made and quilted. It is now hanging up in the Shoppe.

Prairie Pinwheel

Finished this panel of bluework.

Started and finished this panel.

Started another one, but don't have a picture of that one. I may get this quilt done someday!

I am now working on the last main quilt for the Prairie Women Sewing Circle. I had to add more flannel on the wall to have room for all the blocks.

take one

It looks so much better with the setting squares and triangles. I managed to get them cut out last night and put up on the wall. I can't wait to start piecing them altogether!

take two

I had so much fun with the make-do elements in this quilt. I would have loved to find a brown/red solid to make-do in the setting but to no avail.

Last of all here is the way I found Jr. one day while on vacation. He is such a baby.

Jr

He is Lint's little boy, the only male of the litter.

Happy quilting!
